UTSA College of Business

COB Graduate Programs
If you are interested in furthering your education at the doctoral level, The University of Texas at San Antonio is the place to start. The UTSA College of Business offers two doctoral programs: one in Business Administration and one in Applied Statistics. This is a time when others will review your educational record and your work experiences. It is also a time for you to evaluate the institutions you are considering and the ability of those institutions to meet your educational goals. I encourage you to consider UTSA for your doctoral studies.

UTSA's Ph.D. in Business Administration includes emphasis in five traditional business areas: accounting, finance, information technology, marketing, and organization and management studies. The primary focus of the program is to prepare qualified candidates for academic careers in teaching and research. As reported in a recent article from Newsline, the market for business Ph.D.'s is strong. Data suggests that there will be a robust demand for faculty in schools of business for at least the next 15 years. These projections by business deans indicate that students who matriculate now will graduate at a time of increased demand.

UTSA is positioned to become one of the top-tier research universities in Texas. Established in 1969 as a comprehensive metropolitan university, UTSA has grown rapidly (to over 29,000 students) and now offers 24 Ph.D. programs, over 52 master's degrees, and 66 undergraduate degrees. UTSA's College of Business is known for its talented, dedicated faculty; a state-of-the-art, $30 million Business Building; and a diverse student body. The College of Business has attracted faculty from outstanding universities in the United States, many being contributors to some of the finest research journals in their disciplines.

The majority of our graduated Ph.D.’s have been placed in academia as assistant professors, receiving substantial offers with great incentives. These graduates have been placed from east to west coast and internationally, at institutions such as University of Arkansas, University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, University of Nevada, University of Houston, Mississippi State, Cal State, Delaware State, Texas State, Purdue University, Auburn University and the United States Air Force Academy.

Our admission process is very competitive. The departmental committees conduct a holistic review of each applicant’s materials taking all factors into consideration – there is no one sole criterion used for admission or denial. The average GMAT score of our Ph.D. students is 670 total and the average GRE score is 1250. The average masters’ level GPA for entering students is over 3.75.
