Prototype Sleep Apnea Device Wins UTSA Entrepreneurship Competition

ISleepTech, a start-up company offering a breathing mask for people suffering from sleep apnea, triumphed at last weekend’s $100K Student Technology Venture Competition hosted by the UTSA Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE). Six UTSA undergraduates majoring in business and engineering developed a prototype and wrote a business plan to market the technology.

Students Compete for $100K in Cash and Prizes in CITE Tech Start-up Contest

Seven UTSA teams comprised of undergraduate business, computer science and engineering students will compete for cash and prizes at the $100K Student Technology Venture Competition, hosted by the UTSA Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE). The competition is 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 in the Business Building Liu Auditorium (2.01.02) on the UTSA Main Campus.

Mulva, MBA ’75, retired vice president and controller for Exxon Mobil Corporation, will present the keynote address at the upcoming Frost Distinguished Lecture Series, presented by The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business. The lecture will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22 in the Richard S. Liu Auditorium (2.01.02) of the Business Building on the UTSA Main Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

In the coming years, increased troop withdrawals from the Middle East may result in greater numbers of combat veterans searching for jobs in the private sector. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, military veterans have numerous problems gaining and maintaining jobs in the United States, and their unemployment rates are consistently higher than nonveterans.

Bruce Rudy fell in love with teaching during his first teaching assignment as a doctoral student at the McCombs School of Business at UT-Austin. UTSA is the first university in Texas to receive this distinction from the NSF.
