Message from the Department Chair
The Marketing Department at UTSA is committed to providing a stimulating and enlightening education for students committed to learning. Composed of world renowned scholars and award-winning teachers, students learn both the latest in marketing research and the latest in marketing practice.
In recent years, the department has been particularly focused on leveraging its considerable strength and expertise in consumer behavior. Since 2002, we have hired nine new faculty whose research focus is on understanding why consumers make the decisions that they do. Our faculty consistently publish in the highest impact journals in marketing, psychology and communication.
The range of expertise across the department is broad. Areas of faculty expertise include cross-cultural research, child development, psycholinguistics, judgment and decision making, self-regulation, evolutionary psychology, self-concept and persuasion. In each of these areas, faculty make important contributions to fundamental theories of human behavior as well as their applications to marketing practice. Thus, our faculty not only publish in the leading marketing journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research and Journal of Consumer Psychology, but also in the leading journals in psychology (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Psychological Science) and communication (Human Communication Research, and Communication Research).
The deep knowledge and interdisciplinary focus that the faculty bring to understanding what makes consumers tick provides unique opportunities for students in all programs—undergraduates, MBAs and doctoral students. We are proud of our accomplishments thus far, but we are committed to new discoveries and breakthroughs, and passing these on to our students.
