Mission
To improve the prospect for growth-oriented, globally competitive entrepreneurship in emerging and transitional markets through practice-oriented graduate management education.
Center for Global Entrepreneurship
The Center for Global Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The center was established in 2004 to meet the educational and career needs of emerging market entrepreneurs and those who support them. Entrepreneurs drive economic development. This is especially true in developing and transitional economies, where 30 million active entrepreneurs are becoming a principal source of sustainable economic growth.
The risks for these owners of new and growing businesses are high, but helping these risk-takers to create and better develop new enterprises can lead to significant reductions in poverty and more open societies in emerging markets.
Among the many barriers to successful entrepreneurship and innovation in emerging and transitional markets is the lack of a world-class management education. Many emerging markets entrepreneurs fail to realize their full potential, because they do not understand how to integrate the many business skills they already have into a managerial worldview that will lead to more globally competitive enterprises. There is a critical need for a leading edge graduate management program focusing on helping experienced emerging markets entrepreneurs to grow and develop their firms in the world's most challenging markets.
